The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday recommended transfer of seven High Court judges to other High Courts in the country. The collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, recommended the transfer of seven judges and uploaded the proposal on the apex court’s website.
Among the judges whose transfer has been recommended is Justice VM Velumani, a judge of the Madras High Court. He has been recommended for transfer from the Madras High Court to the Calcutta High Court as a judge. The collegium also includes Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice S Abdul Nazeer. He has recommended the transfer of Justice Battu Devanand from the Andhra Pradesh High Court to the Madras High Court.
Justice D Ramesh has been recommended for transfer from the Andhra Pradesh High Court to the Allahabad High Court, while Justice Lalitha Kanneganti from the Telangana High Court to the Karnataka High Court. Justice D Nagarjuna has been recommended to be transferred from the Telangana High Court to the Madras High Court. The collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice T Raja from the Madras High Court to the Rajasthan High Court.
The collegium has recommended transfer of Justice A Abhishek Reddy from Telangana High Court to Patna High Court. Advocates of the Telangana High Court protested against the proposed transfer of Justice Reddy and later a delegation of bar leaders met the CJI in the Supreme Court.
Gujarat High Court judge Justice Nikhil S Karil’s name does not figure in the list of high court judges recommended for transfer. Lawyers of the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association protested against the proposed transfer of Justice Karil to the Patna High Court and later a delegation of bar leaders met the CJI, who assured that the matter would be looked into.
