Delhi News: Arrested for cheating people by posing as joint director of CBI, cash worth lakhs recovered

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested a person from Tamil Nadu Bhawan in Delhi. He used to pose as Joint Director of CBI and cheat people. During the search, CBI has recovered Rs 21 lakh in cash and gold jewelery from him.

The accused arrested by the CBI has been identified as Kovi Reddy Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Chinnavaltair, Visakhapatnam. The CBI said that he used to meet people and assure them of nexus with high officials in cases registered by various central probe agencies and also used to demand expensive gifts. The arrested accused used to call himself the director of CBI. The accused was allegedly living in Tamil Nadu House posing as an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

According to the FIR registered against him, Reddy Srinivasa Rao had come to Delhi on November 22 and was staying at Tamil Nadu Bhavan. On 24 November, Srinivasa Rao met Penupothula and introduced himself as a CBI officer. The victim demanded employment for her younger son. Apart from this, he assured Margana Venkateswara Rao and Ravi to get no entry permits from the Delhi Police for 2,000 vehicles. CBI has recovered Rs 21 lakh in cash, gold ornaments and other documents during searches from Tamil Nadu Bhavan. The police arrested the accused and produced him in the court. The court has sent him to police custody for two days.
